1. What this agreement covers
These terms are a contract between you and SEEKRESOLVE. LTD, trading as AssessMilesLog ("we", "us", "AssessMilesLog"), governing your use of the AssessMilesLog mobile app ("the App"). By installing or using the App, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App.
2. What AssessMilesLog is, and is not
- AssessMilesLog is a mileage and expense-tracking tool for private-hire and rideshare drivers. It records your driving sessions using your phone's location, reads your Uber statement PDFs and receipt photos on your device, and produces an estimate of your income, expenses, and mileage claim for a tax year.
- AssessMilesLog is not a tax adviser, an accountant, or a substitute for either. Every figure the App shows is an estimate, not a tax return, not a filing, and not advice. See section 6.
- AssessMilesLog is not HMRC Making Tax Digital (MTD) software. The App does not submit anything to HMRC on your behalf, and using the App does not meet any MTD filing obligation you may have.
- AssessMilesLog is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Uber Technologies, Inc. or any of its group companies. "Uber" is used in this document, and may be used inside the App, only to describe the statement documents the App can read, in the same way a spreadsheet that can open a Word file is not affiliated with Microsoft. See section 11.
2A. Early access, and what may change
AssessMilesLog is in early access. It is free to use while we finish it, and we are still improving it, so features may change and mistakes may remain. Some features are marked Pro in the App. Pro features are free while AssessMilesLog is in early access. Pro, a paid version, is planned. Before any Pro feature stops being free, we will tell you in the App at least 30 days ahead, and we will say what Pro includes and what it costs. When that happens, the free version's monthly report will cover the first 15 shifts of each calendar month, by start time (the App does not limit this for bike and e-bike couriers), and the report will say so on the screen and on the report and tell you how many shifts it leaves out. Your shift list, your mileage totals and your CSV export use every shift. Whatever you have created stays yours to view, export, back up and delete, and a later subscription will not stop you doing so. Because your records are kept only on your phone, make a backup regularly (section 4).
3. No account, no server: where your data lives
In this version, AssessMilesLog does not require you to create an account, and does not operate a server that stores your data. The App has no permission to use the internet. Every record you create in the App (your shifts, statement imports, receipts, vehicle details and estimates) is stored only on your phone, encrypted at rest. We do not receive, see, or hold a copy of your data, except where this document says otherwise (a backup or export you choose to send somewhere, section 4, or a feedback email you choose to send us). A later version may add an account and a server, for example to sell a subscription; if so, we will update these terms and show you the change in the App before you use it.
Because there is no server and no account, features that depend on one (recovering your data if you lose your phone without a backup, or signing in on a second device to see the same records) are not available. This is a deliberate design choice, described in section 4.
4. Backup, your passphrase, and what happens if you forget it
You may back up your AssessMilesLog data. The backup is encrypted on your phone, using a key derived from a passphrase you choose, before it is saved or shared. You choose where it goes, for example a file in your own Google Drive; once you send it somewhere, that place's own rules apply. The backup also contains the key to your records, locked with your passphrase, so your passphrase is the only protection on the backup file. Choose a long passphrase that is hard to guess (the App asks for at least 12 characters): anyone who has the file and can guess your passphrase can read your records. We never see this passphrase, and we cannot see, access, reset, or recover it. The spreadsheet (CSV) export for your accountant is not locked with a passphrase: you send it where you choose.
THIS MEANS: if you forget your passphrase, your backup cannot be decrypted or recovered by anyone, including SEEKRESOLVE. LTD, however you contact us. The App will warn you about this when you first set up a backup and will suggest keeping your passphrase in a password manager or another safe place. You are solely responsible for remembering or safely storing your passphrase. We are not liable for data loss caused by a forgotten or lost passphrase.
If you do not set up a backup and lose, damage, reset, or replace your phone without one, your AssessMilesLog records (including records you may need for a tax return going back up to six years) will be lost, and we will not be able to help you recover them.
5. How the App produces its figures, and your responsibility to check them
5.1 Statement PDFs (a Pro feature, free during early access)
The App reads figures from Uber statement PDFs you choose to import, on your device. It runs arithmetic checks against the figures printed in each statement and stops the import, asking you to check the document, if a check fails or if it finds a label it does not recognise. You confirm the import before it is saved. The App stores the PDF itself alongside the figures taken from it, as evidence.
5.2 Mileage during a shift
The App records your location during a shift, to calculate your mileage and split it into categories (Working, Home to first pickup, Last drop-off to home, Personal, and Unassigned until you confirm a split). A shift starts only when you tap "Start shift". It ends when you tap "Stop shift". When you have been still for 10 minutes within 150 metres of your home location, the App asks "Stop work?". If you tap Stop, the shift ends at the time you arrived; if you do not answer for 10 more minutes, it ends at your arrival time and is marked for you to check. A shift also ends if you have been still for 2 hours anywhere. If you choose "Break / private", the App keeps recording your location on your phone and marks that time as personal miles until you resume. The App asks "Is this your home?" once, when you start your first shift, and never sets your home without your answer. If you say yes, it saves your phone's last known location as home, so only say yes if you are at home right now; if you say "Not now" it saves nothing. You can set or change your home in Settings. Until a home is set, the "Stop work?" question is not asked. A mileage split only happens when you confirm it, by tapping in the App or by the App matching it against a statement's own trip times; a proposal the App suggests from your location history is never applied on its own.
5.3 Receipt photos (a Pro feature, free during early access)
When you photograph a receipt, the App reads the total, VAT, date, and merchant using text recognition that runs entirely on your phone, and asks you to confirm every value before it is saved. See the Privacy Policy, section 3.
IMPORTANT: the App's checks are designed to catch obvious errors, not to guarantee accuracy. You are responsible for checking every figure the App shows you against your own records before relying on it, in a tax return or otherwise.
Receipt photos and the text read from them are not sent to Google, to us, or to anyone else.
6. Estimates only, not tax advice
The tax-year figures the App shows you (income, expenses, mileage claim, estimated Income Tax, and Class 4 National Insurance) are calculated from a rates file we update each tax year, and from the records you have entered or confirmed in the App, or the figures you type into the tax calculator. They do not account for any income, expense, allowance, or circumstance you have outside the App, and they are not available at all for Scottish taxpayers, whose tax bands differ.
These figures are estimates, not tax advice, and not a substitute for a qualified accountant. Always confirm your final figures with a qualified accountant before filing a tax return. We are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on a figure the App produces.
6A. No guarantee, and your responsibility for what you send
AssessMilesLog does not guarantee that any figure, estimate or output is accurate, complete or accepted by HMRC, and does not say that it is compliant with any tax rule. You are responsible for the accuracy of everything you send or file.
6B. Reminders
If the App reminds you about something, such as a missing receipt, a tax deadline, days with no mileage logged, or the date your MOT, vehicle tax, private hire vehicle licence or driver badge expires, the reminder is a convenience and can fail to arrive. Your phone's settings, battery saver or a missed notification can stop it. You are responsible for knowing and meeting your own tax deadlines and other dates, including your MOT, insurance, vehicle tax, private hire vehicle licence and driver badge dates, whether or not the App has a reminder for them. We are not liable for a penalty, a fine or any other loss caused by a reminder that did not arrive.
7. Your responsibilities
- Check every figure the App proposes before relying on it (sections 5 and 6).
- Keep your backup passphrase safe, or accept the risk of not backing up at all (section 4).
- Grant the location permission the App needs honestly, understanding that the App keeps recording your location during a shift while your screen is off or another app is in front, and shows a notification while it does (see the Privacy Policy for what this involves).
- Use the App only for your own lawful driving-related record-keeping, and not to process another person's data without their knowledge, except where a document you choose to import (such as a statement) incidentally names someone else, per section 8.
8. Other people's data
The App is designed so that the documents it can currently import (monthly Uber statements) contain only your own earnings and mileage totals, not passenger names or addresses. The App does not, and will not, import Uber's personal-data download feature, because that download contains other people's (passengers') addresses; nothing in the App reads or stores it, even briefly.
Weekly Uber statements are not yet supported for import. If support for them is added later, their content will be reviewed first for this reason, and this document, and the Privacy Policy, will be updated if that changes what the App processes.
9. Intellectual property
The App, its design, and its underlying software belong to SEEKRESOLVE. LTD or its licensors. You may use the App for your own personal record-keeping. You may not copy, reverse-engineer beyond what the law allows, resell, or redistribute the App. If you send us feedback or an idea, you let us use it to improve AssessMilesLog without paying you or crediting you.
10. Liability [SOLICITOR REVIEW NEEDED - see accompanying open-questions list]
To the fullest extent the law allows, SEEKRESOLVE. LTD's liability to you in connection with the App is limited as set out in this section. This section is a placeholder pending solicitor review; do not publish it as final. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under UK consumer law.
11. No affiliation with Uber; trademark
AssessMilesLog is an independent product, built and operated by SEEKRESOLVE. LTD. It is not made, sponsored, endorsed, or approved by Uber Technologies, Inc. "Uber" and any related names or logos are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used in this document, and may be referenced in the App or its store listing, only to describe the documents the App is designed to read, which is a permitted descriptive use, not a claim of affiliation. [The App name "AssessMilesLog" has not had a full trademark clearance opinion. A Companies House search (2026-10-08) found no company of this name; the UK IPO trademark register has not been searched for it. An existing mileage-tracking app called "MileLog" is close, alongside the earlier "AssessRite" and "MILEAGE" findings - a solicitor's clearance opinion is needed before filing or relying on the name. See the accompanying open-questions list.]
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be shown in the App before you continue using it. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. General
- These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the App.
