For UK private hire and delivery drivers

Your work miles, recorded as you drive, for your Self Assessment.Skip the shoebox.

AssessMilesLog is a mileage log for your Self Assessment tax return. It records your miles during your shift, reminds you before your MOT, vehicle tax, private hire vehicle licence and driver badge dates, and has a tax calculator for an estimate from your own figures. All on your phone, and nothing is sent to us unless you choose to email us. You do not need an account.

Mileage and expense records for private-hire and delivery drivers. Estimates, not tax advice. We do not file your return.

Coming soon to Google Play. AssessMilesLog is not available to download yet.

Same road, same receipts

Two drivers. One of them kept their records as they went.

Same driver. Same tax year. Same receipts. Keep scrolling and watch the two cars on the road below.

An illustration, not a test result or what usually happens.

The same tax year, with and without AssessMilesLog

  1. April. With AssessMilesLog: tap Start and your shift is recorded. Without it: you try to remember to write the miles down.
  2. Over the months, the same receipts arrive on both cars. With AssessMilesLog each one is entered and kept at once, and the car drives on. Without it they pile up on the car, the road fills with potholes, and the car slows down and falls behind.
  3. January. With AssessMilesLog your records can be exported as a spreadsheet for your accountant. Without it the paper is still piling up.
  4. The end of the year. The car with AssessMilesLog keeps going, organised as it went. The other car stops against a deadline wall just before it. If the 31 January deadline is missed, HMRC charges a penalty.

How it works

Four steps, and you only do the driving.

  1. Drive

Start your shift as normal. Car, van, motorbike or bicycle.

  2. It records the miles

Miles are recorded on your phone during your shift.

  3. Review your drives

Mark each drive business or personal.

  4. Check a tax estimate

Check your figures in the tax calculator. An estimate using HMRC's published rates, not tax advice.

Reminders

Reminders before your dates come round.

A lapsed licence can stop you working. AssessMilesLog reminds you before the MOT, vehicle tax, private hire vehicle licence and driver badge dates you enter. The reminders are set on your phone, and nothing is sent to us.

Reminders are a convenience and can fail to arrive: a phone setting or battery saver can stop them. You stay responsible for your MOT, insurance, vehicle tax, private hire vehicle licence and driver badge dates, whether or not this App has a reminder for them.

Questions

Plain answers.

Do you send my data anywhere?

Your trips, receipts and mileage stay on your phone. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to email us. If you make a backup or an export, you choose where it goes.

Is there a forum?

No.

Do I need to sign up?

No. You do not need an account. AssessMilesLog is not on Google Play yet.

Is the tax figure advice?

No. It is an estimate based on HMRC's published rates and the figures you enter. For advice about your own situation, speak to an accountant.

Does it file my Self Assessment return?

No. It keeps your records and has a tax calculator for an estimate. You or your accountant file the return.
